Why a Wiki?

Technology is advancing at a crazy pace. Blogging, wikis, RSS feeds, podcasting – it’s getting hard to keep all these things straight, but what better way to hone our technology skills than by creating, and inviting our community to participate in, a wiki for the library. The Book Lovers Wiki is a place for the people of Princeton to talk (or write) about what they are reading. Our Summer Reading Programs is an old, but GREAT, program and we wanted to give it a modern twist. Click here to sign up.

What is a Wiki?

The term Wiki comes from the Hawaiian word wiki wiki which means quick. A wiki is a kind of website that is written collaboratively and that multiple people can edit easily and quickly. In the Book Lovers Wiki you can have your book reviews posted and respond to other people’s reviews.

Can I add my reviews to Book Lovers myself, like on Wikipedia?

If you would like to post your own reviews on the Booklovers wiki send an e-mail to books@princetonlibrary.org telling us. We will send you directions on how to do it and the necessary password.

Who can contribute reviews to the wiki?

Anybody in our summer reading program! All the book reviews in the Book Lovers Wiki were submitted by the folks who enrolled in the Princeton Public Library's Summer Reading Club for adults. Want to join, keep reading.

How do I enroll?

Register by email. Send a note to books@princetonlibrary.org with Book Lovers in the subject line. Don’t forget to tell us your name and contact information. That's it!

You can also join by calling 609-924-9529, ext. 220. If you don’t get a real person, don’t worry, leave a message with your name and contact information and we’ll register you.

Or, register for the Book Lovers Summer Reading Club in person at the library’s Welcome Desk. The Princeton Public Library is located in downtown Princeton, NJ on Witherspoon Street. Directions to the Library.

Once you've joined Book Lovers, just e-mail us your reviews to books@princetonlibrary.org with the book's title in the subject line. Or you can drop handwritten reviews off at the library's welcome desk. Each review you submit gets you a drawing in the end of summer raffle.

If you have questions about Book Lovers please cal 609-924-9529 ext. 220.

Each Review you submit gets you a raffle ticket for great prizes.

For extra chances to win raffle tickets click here.

What other events are happening as part of the summer reading program?

Our summer reading program will have its official kick-off on June 8th with a special edition of our monthly program known as DataBytes. More information about this event can be found Here!

What makes a good book review?

For us good book review is short - between 50 and 250 words. About half should be a summary of the book and the rest your reaction to the book. What you liked (or hated) and why. For consistency (and searchabiltiy) please rate the book according to the following scale, and don’t forget your name and contact information.

Among the best I've ever read

Very, very good

A good read

OK

Not worth the time

For each review you submit you earn a ticket in the Summer Reading Club raffle.

There are also special raffle's. For example, at Ann Waldron's reading from her new mystery, A Rare Murder in Princeton on July 24th at 7 p.m. there will be a special raffle for a private tour for two of the Rare Books section of the Princeton University Library.

Program information can be found on the Booklovers Wiki homepage or at Eventson the library homepage.

What if I don’t want my reviews posted on the Book Lovers Wiki?

If you do not want to have your reviews posted on the Wiki, please tell us that on each & every review you submit – otherwise we will assume that we have your permission to post it. Also, consider having your reviews posted with an abbreviated version of your name – like your first name and the initial of your last name or just your initials. Whatever you decide please include your name and contact information so you can be entered into the Reading Club Raffle. You will still get a raffle ticket for our cool Reading Club prizes for each review submitted regardless of it being posted on the wiki. Your contact information will NEVER be posted on the Wiki.

Can my reviews be posted on the wiki anonymously?

Yes. But please consider having your reviews posted with an abbreviated version of your name – like your first name and the initial of your last name or just your initials. If you choose this option please include your name and contact information so you can be entered into the Reading Club Raffle (we have to be able to call you if you win a cool prize). You will still get a raffle ticket for our cool Reading Club prizes for each review submitted regardless of it being posted on the wiki. Tell us to use an abbreviated version of your name or each & every review you submit, otherwise we will assume that we have your permission to use your full name. Your contact information will NEVER be posted on the Wiki.

Will my personal information be posted in the wiki?

Never. Your name will be credited to your review, unless you tell us that you want your review posted with an abbreviated version of your name (or as anonymous), but your email address and other contact information will not be posted on the wiki. We need your contact information so we can call you and tell you when you’ve won something in the Summer Reading Club raffle.

Why wasn’t my review posted on the Book Lovers Wiki?

One, it’s been busy and we haven’t had time to do it yet – please be patient. Also, please understand reviews that are emailed are easier to post and will get on the wiki faster than reviews that are handwritten. Two, there was a technological error and we didn’t get your review. Email the review to us again and let us know in the Subject line that we didn’t get it the last time. Three, there were bad words in your review. If a review is offensive we reserve the right to not post it.
